Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our friendly ZePacha Adventure Safari guide will greet you with a warm Tanzanian welcome. From here, we embark on an exciting journey to Olpopongi Maasai Village, located 74 km west of Kilimanjaro. This scenic drive takes you through the breathtaking landscapes of West Kilimanjaro, where you might spot zebras, elephants, and other wildlife roaming freely. If the sky is clear, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in the distance.

Upon arrival at Olpopongi Maasai Village, the Maasai Chief and his community will warmly welcome you with refreshments and an introduction to their rich culture and traditions. This is your chance to experience the Maasai way of life firsthand—through storytelling, traditional dances, and a deep dive into their centuries-old customs.

Visit Local Schools – Experience the heart of Tengeru’s education system, where we interact with children at:

Visit a WWII Refugee Site – Explore an old stone quarry site that became home to over 100 Polish refugees after World War II. Learn about their struggles and resilience, and visit the memorial site where many were laid to rest after succumbing to malaria and influenza.

Evening in Arusha

As the sun sets, we drive back to Arusha for a comfortable overnight stay at the Mount Meru Hotel, a perfect place to relax after a day of cultural exploration.

After breakfast, we depart from Arusha with our picnic lunch boxes and head towards the breathtaking landscapes of Monduli Juu. This area, home to the Maasai community, offers an immersive cultural experience blended with scenic nature walks and spectacular wildlife encounters.

Cultural & Nature Walk in Monduli

Guided Forest Walk – Accompanied by an armed ranger, we trek through a lush forest, where sightings of buffalos, elephants, and other wildlife are possible. The ranger will share insights about the local ecosystem, conservation efforts, and the importance of this area to the Maasai people.

Hike to Monduli Mountain Summit – After a hearty picnic lunch, we embark on a rewarding hike to the summit of Monduli Mountain, where panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru unfold before us. This vantage point offers stunning landscapes, perfect for photography and peaceful reflection.

After breakfast, we set off on an adventurous journey across the rugged terrain toward Lake Eyasi, a scenic soda lake located within the Great Rift Valley. The dry and rugged landscape offers a stark contrast to the lush plains of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, making it a fascinating stop for cultural immersion.

Cultural Encounters with the Hadzabe & Datoga Tribes

Meet the Hadzabe Bushmen – We will spend time with one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in Tanzania. The Hadzabe still live as they did thousands of years ago, hunting with bows and arrows and foraging for roots, tubers, and wild fruits. You’ll have the chance to join them on a short hunting trip, learning their tracking skills and survival techniques.

Visit the Datoga Tribe (Barabaig/Mang’ati) – Unlike the Hadzabe, the Datoga are pastoralists and blacksmiths. They are known for crafting metal weapons, tools, and jewelry, which they trade with other tribes, including the Hadzabe. Our local Tatoga guide will lead the tour, sharing deep insights into their culture, customs, and way of life.

We kick off the day with an early morning adventure, joining the Hadzabe Bushmen on a traditional hunting expedition. Experience their ancient survival techniques as they track small game using bows and poisoned arrows. You’ll witness their unmatched tracking skills and gain a deep appreciation for their harmonious relationship with nature.

After an exhilarating morning, we return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast, then set off towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
